Your deux mains sandals are crafted by two hands using the authentic combination of up-cycled tires and locally sourced materials. Calling them the most impactful sandal in the world might be a bold statement, but here is how we back it up:

All of deux mains leather is produced in a tannery in Haiti, and sourced as a byproduct of the meat industry. That means we don’t support the killing of  any animals for their skin, and we work with a local  tannery that employs more than 115 people for its leather production.

Crafted with Thread Ground to Good™ canvas, this strap is made with the most responsible fabric in the world.

Our foot-beds are made from a foam with a high level of viscosity, softening from the pressure of wear thus allowing it to mold to your foot's’ contours. We purchase it from a local supplier who transports it from a factory where it is made in the Dominican Republic.

We source our glue cement for the adhesion of all of our sandals and accessories from a factory in Carrefour, Haiti where it is manufactured.

The soles of deux mains sandals are made from the sidewalls of discarded car tires.  They are not melted down and reshaped, rather they keep their original form.  The tires are collected, and the soles are cut and thinned to a perfect thickness by a community of refugees at the Haitian Dominican Border who were trained in partnership with our Non Profit partner, REBUILD globally. Each sole is unique, and has a past life of rolling through the streets of Port Au Prince, Haiti.

We source our clay beads from Papillon Enterprise where they take earth from deep beneath Haiti’s soil and transform it into beautiful accent pieces.

All wood used in the creation of deux mains products are made from genuine pine by craftsmen who received formal training from FonMax – a carpentry trade school in Port Au Prince where they learned the art of precision and innovative techniques.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and while unemployment affects more than half of the population, a mere third of those who have jobs work in the formal sector, leaving a  vast majority of people without  access to formal health care and guaranteed minimum wage standards . Most importantly, they lack access to consistent pay, which is imperative to breaking the cycle of poverty.

As a part of our founding principles, we are proud to say that  nearly 100% of materials for production are sourced in Haiti, which promotes investment in the local supply chain, and increases economic opportunities in the country  beyond our formal staff. By sourcing materials locally, we can guarantee transparency and dignity in our entire supply chain. We proudly showcase the uniqueness of a “Made in Haiti” product, not only through the Two Hands of our Haitian craftsmen and women who create them, but also through the genuine individuality of the raw materials.

Tires and inner tube are regularly burned in Haiti, releasing harmful toxins into the atmosphere.  With every tire that is burned, an estimated 60 ton of harmful C02 emissions are released.  Haiti’s capital city alone generates an estimated 1,500 metric tons of solid waste every day, causing disease, and high flood risk among other hazards.  

What  once considered waste is now a main resource for this thriving business model. By utilizing a distinct combination of something as classic as genuine leather, and as discardable as an used tire, two hands craft products that enhance quality and passion for environmental sustainability.
