Nineteen degrees north of the equator you’ll find a small workshop where artisan–owners source local leathers and repurpose tires to craft beautiful handmade sandals. Inspired by its French translation, craftsmen use their own two hands to sculpt sidewalls into soles with a pride that comes from not only making something valuable for others, but also making a meaningful life for themselves.
Anne Fertil, affectionately known as Mami Anne, has a smile that would brighten anyone’s day. She greets her colleagues happily every morning, usually with hugs. While she contributes to the entire sandal-making process, she primarily works as a seamstress.
Jean Robert Pluviose, our Production and Design Manager, is a brilliant and integral member of the REBUILD team. His creativity and precision are showcased in our beautiful tire sandals, and his calm disposition and open heart are the qualities that create the productive and encouraging atmosphere in our workshop.
Annette is one of our most recently hired artisans at REBUILD globally. Two years ago, she participated in a 3-month training with us in a capacity-building and job-creating program. After the three months of training, REBUILD did not have the capacity to bring her on as a full-time staff member. However, she was recently asked to come back on board as a full-time sandal craftswoman!
Minouche immediately showed talent at handcrafting, and has since become one of our most refined sandal makers. She is the first person to offer to stay late to finish an order, or come in on a day off to introduce the workshop to a customer, or spend extra time with the manager to learn a new pattern.
Brunel Zamor is our Haiti Liaison Officer. His natural talent for diplomacy, coupled with his intimate and authentic understanding of Haitian culture, allows REBUILD to operate with legitimacy and respect in the Haitian community.
